Making a lasting impression
Questions about you and your experience, like these, are usually asked near the end of an interview, so making sure you master your response will be vital to giving you one last chance to impress the interviewer/s and explain why you should be chosen over others. This question could also be worded as “Sell yourself” or “Why do you think you’re a good fit for this role” – both of which are asking for you to highlight your strengths, and why you are the strongest candidate for the role.
Your answer could include some of the following:
- Your top skills relating to the role
- Transferable skills that will help you in many roles
- Training/Experience/Certifications
- Key achievements in your past roles
- Knowledge of the industry
It’s important to remember that you want to stand out from the other candidates and show why you’re unique, but don’t let your answer go on for too long; otherwise, you might lose the interviewers’ interest. Summarise your best qualities clearly and confidently.

“I am confident that my skills and experience in this field are ideal for the role. I have spent the past 5 years effectively managing a team of 3 people, where I was responsible for the team’s workload, training them up and ensuring that the team worked cohesively with one another. I successfully managed campaigns for a variety of clients and even increased our organic online traffic by 40% within my first year through multi-platform campaigns, SEO measures and implementing more relevant content. I am keen to bring these skills and success forward to your company”.
Marketing Assistant/Executive example:
“As a recent graduate, I recognise that my direct industry experience is limited, but the knowledge and skills I’ve developed through my degree and related experience have given me a strong foundation in marketing and its key concepts. I’ve also gained valuable transferable skills that I’m eager to apply in a professional setting. I would love the opportunity to put these skills into practice, continue learning, and grow within your team, contributing high-quality work that supports the company’s long-term success.”
Junior Engineer example:
“I would be a good match for this job as it aligns perfectly with the type of engineering I’m passionate about and eager to grow in. Although I’m early in my career, the hands-on experience I’ve gained so far has reinforced my interest in solving real-world problems, learning from experienced engineers, and contributing to many projects. Your company stands out to me because of its work, and I would like to be a part of and grow within. I’m ready to build on that experience while delivering reliable, detail-oriented work. I’m motivated, adaptable, and genuinely excited about contributing to the team while continuing to develop into a well-rounded engineer.”
Sales Executive example:
“I want this job because I am passionate about building strong client relationships and helping businesses find solutions that support their goals. My previous experience in B2B sales has shown me how rewarding it is to understand a client’s challenges, communicate clearly and deliver results that contribute to long-term partnerships. I generated £2 million in revenue for my company in 2024, and I’m eager to build on that success here. Your company’s reputation and growth are where I want to continue developing my skills. You should hire me because I bring a solid foundation in sales, a proactive approach, and a proven track record of delivering results.”
Account Manager example:
“I believe I’m a strong fit for this role because my experience within the last 3 years in a junior account position has given me a solid understanding of client management, relationship building, and delivering consistent service. Over the past couple of years, I’ve learned how to manage and stay on top of multiple client accounts whilst maintaining expectations, support account strategies, and collaborate effectively with internal teams. Most importantly, I’m motivated to take the next step in my career, and I’m confident that my blend of experience and passion for client success makes me well-suited for this position.”
Fleet Administrator example:
“I believe I’m a great fit for this role because my experience across multiple positions and companies has given me a strong foundation in organisation, coordination, and problem-solving. In my previous roles, I’ve managed a variety of administrative tasks, worked with different teams, and adapted quickly to new systems and processes. That experience has made me highly efficient, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling fast-paced, operational environments. Overall, my transferable skills make me confident that I would add value to your team and excel in this position.”
Production Operative example:
“I believe I’m a strong fit for this role because I already have experience working in a similar production environment, so I understand the importance of efficiency, accuracy, and working safely. In my previous role, I gained hands-on experience with production processes, quality checks, and meeting daily targets, which has helped me develop a reliable work ethic and strong attention to detail. I work well in fast-paced, team-focused settings and I’m comfortable following set procedures while also using initiative when needed. With the experience I’ve gained, I’m confident I can contribute to your team and support smooth, efficient production operations.”
